General information

Anyone aged between 5 and 18 years of age can become a member of the Guernsey Rugby Academy. We welcome players at any time during the season which runs from September through to mid May. No experience is necessary but a willingness to learn and form part of a team is essential.

The annual membership for the 2011/2012 season is £65 and includes a number of items which vary dependent of the age group you fit in to:

• All age groups will receive approximately 30 rugby training sessions of 1½ hours duration and/or match days throughout the season.
• All players benefit from Rugby Ready, Level 1 & 2 qualified Licensed coaches, professional Rugby Development Officer coaching and over 40 volunteer coaches and team managers.
• All players in the year groups Under 7 – Under 13 will receive a free Academy club rugby shirt.
• For the older age groups where an Academy shirt is not included in their membership fee a clean match kit will be provided for each match.
• All players benefit from First aid St John qualified personnel in attendance at training sessions and at matches.
• All coaches, Managers and volunteers are CRB checked and equity & RFU safeguarding policies are fully complied with.
• All players are covered by RFU personal accident insurance cover.
• All players are encouraged to participate at Club Social events.
• The Academy has secured access to sponsorship funding to assist with away travel (in some year groups this amounts to over £400 of value for each player in a season).
• Additional medical, personal accident and travel insurance for UK trips is arranged for each player. The cost of the insurance is subsidised by the Academy. The player pays £3 per trip.
• Depending on year groups we have arranged a number of UK fixtures, Siam Cup plus the possibility of UK teams visiting Jersey for further away game fixtures (all heavily subsidised travel by sponsors). See calendar page on website for details.
• At under 14s, under 15s and under16s entry into the Hampshire RFU leagues and at Colts entry into the Sussex RFU leagues involving 6 or 7 away fixtures in the UK (all heavily subsidised travel).
• For some year groups an annual France away or home fixture is a possibility.
• When teams are travelling to away matches the Academy will provide the required RFU ratios of supervising travelling adult’s to players who have been CRB approved and will be compliant with the RFU policies on Safeguarding.
• Accredited RFU rugby academy status.
• Registration to an RFU affiliated rugby club and recognised registration on the RFU Rugby First player data base.
• Excellent facilities and equipment. Marked pitches, flags, post protectors and qualified RFU referees.
• We offer members the ability to apply for tickets from our RFU home International ticket allocation – availability is limited so you are advised to apply to the International tickets secretary as early as possible in the season.
• The Academy maintains this up-to-date website with player information, match reports, picture gallery and a fixtures calendar.
