Every year group has a Safeguarder who has attended the Safeguarding and Protecting Young People in Rugby course recommended by the RFU.
In general terms the course is for any member of staff or volunteers who is working with or has responsibility for children and young people (players under the age of 18 years) within rugby, from club to international level.
By the end of the course participants are able to:
- Identify best practice within Rugby
- Identify signs and indicators of possible abuse and poor practice
- State action to take if there is a concern or disclosure
- Know where to find support within the RFU
- Recognise their role in safeguarding and protecting young people within rugby
EVERY YEAR GROUP HAS A TRAINED FIRST AIDER
The Academy will pay for anyone interested in qualifying as a First Aider to attend a sports first aid course
This course will give you all the necessary first aid skills to deal with a whole range of sporting injuries the course is run by St John’s and is aimed at anyone involved in sporting activities – from referees and coaches to players.
St John Ambulance welcomes young people from the age of 12 onto all community first aid courses. If under the age of 16, you must attend with a responsible adult member of the family or guardian (two young people per adult). First Aiders are trained to deal with the type of injuries and medical emergencies that can happen during sporting activities.
Continuous assessment by trainer. NVQ Level 2 equivalency.
All volunteers and helpers at the Guernsey Rugby Academy require to have an enhanced RFU CRB
All volunteers involved in the supervision of children, or any activities involving children need to have a current RFU Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) Check renewed at least every three years.
NOTHING ELSE WILL DO. You can be the Chief of Police himself, it is not relevant.
If you have an RFU CRB through another Rugby CLub, let us know we will get access to it.
If you need a CRB, it is now a very simple process it is almost all done on line and Jo de Garis will guide you through the process required
EVERYONE needs an RFU Enhanced CRB Check if they wish to assist at Minis or Youth with ANYTHING involving supervision of children (under 18 years of age).
Medically Qualified Personnel – PLEASE READ
The Guernsey Rugby Academy LBG recognises and appreciates the support from doctors and other health professionals who provide assistance to the club, and that this gesture contributes to the smooth running of many matches. Whilst encouraging health professionals to participate in providing assistance at events, matches and training, we must point out that before they undertake such a role, only Health Professionals who have undertaken appropriate first aid training and are identified as first aiders by the Guernsey Rugby Academy, will be insured to practice to the limits of this training. Any further professional treatment or advice given, is provided under their own indemnity and insurance.
Information from the RFU
The RFU recognises and appreciates the support from doctors and other health professionals who provide assistance to clubs or events (often in the professional’s own time and at their expense), and that this gesture contributes to the smooth running of many matches. Whilst encouraging doctors to participate in providing medical assistance at these events, we make the following recommendations regarding the issues that should be considered by clubs before engaging the services of a crowd doctor, and by doctors before undertaking such a role.
INSURANCE
A suitably qualified volunteer who has been appointed by an insured club as their medical attendant will be insured to practice first aid to the limits of their training by the standard RFU insurance, and have the same public liability cover as referees and coaches. Obviously they should not attempt any treatment that they have not been trained for, and it is the club’s responsibility to check the qualifications of any such volunteers (ask to see certificates, obtain any relevant CRB checks, encourage refresher training when appropriate etc).
Professional medical staff are not included in this cover and should have their own indemnity and insurance before being appointed by a club.
